美国驻上海总领馆商务处在本月5日星期四为纪念“世界环境日”，联合上海市环境保护产业协会共同举办了美中环保产业技术交流会。共有超过60多位客人参加了此次研讨会，包括政府部门的高级官员，环境保护领域的专家学者。另有大约25家驻上海的美国环保企业参与了此次活动。

活动伊始，商务处的首席商务领事候凯蒂女士和环保产业协会的郑华兴秘书长分别做了简短的发言。

此次活动主要围绕三个主题展开一些非正式的讨论，包括医疗废弃物处理；水和污水处理及生态系统。此外，当地的环保机构认为中国在有害固废的焚烧处理，医疗废弃物的消毒净化处理，整治红土，港口和码头的环保系统方面的技术非常匮乏。

在此次活动中，我们也介绍了新加入商务处负责环保方面的新同事褚皓静。

我们也将会支持2004年5月份左右在美国西雅图市举行的中美环保商业和技术交流论坛. 论坛为期三天, 由美国华盛顿州政府经贸厅和美国华州中国交流理事会主办, 中国与会者将通过研讨会、展示会、实地考察和直接与企业对话等方式获得更多所求的信息,并找到合适的环保产品、设备和服务。

　　On Thursday, June 5, CS Shanghai co-hosted a reception with the Shanghai Environmental Protection Industry Association to commemorate "Environmental Protection Day". The 60+ guests included senior Chinese government officials, scholars and executives from the environmental protection field as well approximately 25 Shanghai-based U.S. environmental firms.

　　Principal Commercial Officer Catherine Houghton and Secretary General Zheng Huaxing of the Environmental Industry Association offered brief remarks at the beginning of the program.

　　Informal discussions centered around three topics, hospital waste treatment, water & wastewater and ecology. Local contacts identified urgent technology needs in the areas of hazardous waste incineration, hospital wastewater disinfection, brownfield remediation, and environmental protection systems for ports and harbors.
　　
　　The event provided a timely opportunity to introduce CS Shanghai´s new FSN responsible for the environmental portfolio, Stellar Chu.

　　CS Shanghai also took the opportunity to promote the upcoming Market Access Strategies Environmental Conference to be held in Seattle next year. The three-day event, organized by the Washington State Department of Community Trade and Economic Development (CTED) and the Washington State China Relations Council (WSCRC), will give Chinese participants access to cost-effective and practical information on environmental technologies, management, and policy and compliance issues.
